WHAT YOU LEARN

Trim and shoe live horses the very first day

It’s all practical – “Hands On” “One on One” with the instructor

Learn the proper way to trim the foot to its actual shape, size and angles

Learn how to shape the shoe to properly fit the foot

Learn why horses pull shoes off 3 or 4 days after being shod when they haven’t even been out of the pen

How to trim the horse to go barefoot to ride or just to be turned out in the pasture

How to pad the horse’s feet for different foot problems

How to build new feet, repair bad cracks with fiberglass

The first half of the week you are taught the basics of trimming and shoeing. The second half of the week you are taught the basics lamenesses and how to shoe for them. In order to know the right way to trim or shoe a horse you have to also know the wrong way. By making a mistake on one foot, the students are shown how to correct it on the next foot.

The biggest word in the dictionary is “WHY”. “WHY” would you do this and “WHY” would you NOT do that? If you are continuously making mistakes, all you’re going to do is get faster at your mistakes.

All parts of the shoeing, trimming, and lameness, etc. are explained in an easy way for the students to understand.

You have to have patience to take the time. The students are never hurried.

Farrier tools and equipment are supplied to the students for use at the school. Farrier supplies can be purchased at the school at farrier rates.

Each student receives a book with all the notes of everything taught at the school for future reference.

Upon completion of the school, each student receives a diploma and is a fully certified farrier. After completion of the school, if you have any questions about anything you are unsure of, even though it was covered at school, you can contact the instructor for further clarification.

After the school is completed, all the students have to do when they get home is to shoe a few more horses to get their speed up.

Trimming Class
We offer a two day trimming class which is held during the shoeing school. Students learn the proper way to trim horses to go barefoot plus all the lamenesses. Upon completion of the trimming school, students receive a "Trimming Diploma." The cost is $500.00 for the two days.

WHAT WE DON’T DO

We do not waste the student’s money or time by doing things at the school that they are not going to use. Your time and money are limited and we use both to the student’s best advantage.

We do not shoe or trim dead feet – we use live horses every day.

We do not spend any time breaking or training horses – all our time is spent on learning how to shoe and trim.

There is no classroom instruction or drawing pictures of the horse’s foot and there are no exams. Everything is done “Hands On” and practical with the instructor. 100% of the time is spent “Hands On” with the horse.

We do not use lip chains, twitches, or tying up one leg to get the horse shod or trimmed. Any time pain is used to get the job done, you are in trouble the next time you go to do the horse.

Students do not require weeks upon weeks to learn how to show and trim a horse properly.
